Grants

Grant and scholarship recipients are selected on the following criteria: Eligibility will be open to graduate students and junior and senior scholars, holding academic or academic-related positions, interested in American and comparative political history or areas relevant to the general understanding of American political culture, especially 20th century history, although not solely limited to this century. Selection of grant and scholarship recipients are based on previous academic performance, as evidenced in scholastic records, list of publications, and academic vitae. Samples of previous written work undergo review. In addition, letters of recommendation may be considered when appropriate.

The approximate number of scholarships and grants will vary from year to year depending on the resources and activities of the foundation. At this time, the Institute provides limited awards for research travel, attending conferences, and support of writing projects.


The Institute for Political History is accepting applications for the 2016 Hugh Davis Graham Award. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2016. The award in the amount of $1250 will be announced at the 2016 Policy History Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. The award is taxable under IRS regulations.

Applications must include the following materials:

* Application cover page, which should include Name, Affiliation, Status, Project, Title, and a description of how the funds will be used. 
* Two hundred-fifty (250) word description of research proposal that explains the historiographical significance of the project and lists the applicant's major publicaitons
* Applicants must adhere to the guidelines above or they will not be considered. Late applicants will not be considered. Preference will be given to doctoral students.

No members of the selection committee or relatives of the selection committee, board of directors, or officers of the foundation are eligible for grants and scholarships given or administered through the Institute.
